Good Morning America Names Pasadena Recovery Center a ‘Top Rehab Facility in America’

Good Morning America

Good Morning America named the Pasadena Recovery Center one of the ”Top Rehab Facilities in America”:

“With A-list celebrities’ revolving-door rehab habits, it’s becoming difficult to keep track of the top recovery facilities — and of course what sort of luxurious amenities they offer. Here’s a look at the country’s coziest and most expensive clinics for the rich and famous to dry out.”

However, of the six rehab facilities on the list, the Pasadena Recovery Center is singled out for being affordable:

“Famous for being featured on VH1′s reality-based series “Celebrity Rehab,” Pasadena Recovery Center offers “compassionate, comprehensive, and affordable treatment.” Taking a holistic approach, the center looks to treat clients with mental, physical and spiritual recovery.”

Famed Addiction Author and Lecturer Jerry Moe Speaks at the Pasadena Recovery Center

Jerry Moe, National Director of Children’s Programs for the Betty Ford Center, lectured at the Pasadena Recovery Center (PRC) on Friday, June 15, 2012. Moe, who has written 19 books helping families deal with addiction, emphasized education:

“If we educated kids at a young age, if we give them opportunities to talk openly about what is going on, to learn problem solving skills, self-care skills, who to go to for help — and we give them these mechanisms that when they face challenges in their lives – hey, we all face challenges — but they may have some other strategies to turn to instead of turning to alcohol or drugs.”

Mike Bloom, CEO of the Pasadena Recovery Center which has treated over 6,000 patients in 12 years, who invited Moe to speak at PRC, also stressed education:

“You have to be educated on the illness and our job here is to provide a field where there is an opportunity to get better.” Bloom added, “it’s not a quick fix, but having the facility here does give people a chance to be away from their family for a month, sort some things out, and hopefully make some better choices.”

Is Medical Marijuana Part Of The Problem With Increased Drug-Related Road Fatality’s In California

Friends don’t let friends drive… drugged.

While drunk driving has been on the decline, drug-impaired driving has increased over at least the past four years, according to figures released Tuesday by the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Three out of every 10 people killed on California roads in 2010 tested positive for legal and/or illegal drugs, according to the news release.

Drivers high on prescription drugs, marijuana or other drugs often go under-reported because drug testing is expensive and there is no established legal limit.

PRC's Shelly Sprague Talks About The Recent Study on Comfort Food and Addiction.

After the recent release of a study on the similarities between confort food consumption and drug addiction,  Dave Malkoff from CBS, stopped by the center to get an opinion.

In the interview, Shelly Sprague says:

“Is a potato chip equal to a dose of heroin? No…The brain is flooded with a certain level of dopamine…that creates high levels of euphoria. Addiction is a physical dependency that you will become violently ill if you do not take this substance. That is addiction. I don’t care how many bags of potato chips I eat, I’m not going to become violently ill if I don’t have another bag of potato chips.” (Read Entire Article)
