“I had been to rehab several times and reached a point where I was taking more of what I was doing in hopes that I wouldn’t wake up. And when I got to that point, the next morning Iwoke up and I was like, ‘I just prayed for death. What the hell is wrong with me?’” she told Anderson Cooper, on how she hit rock bottom and finally got sober.

Cooper became sober at 29 after purposefully bashing his head into a concrete floor at a party. “I don’t drink or do drugs anymore,” he told People. “Being sober helps a great deal … I remember looking at my life, my apartment, my dogs [when I was still using], and I thought, ‘What’s happening?’”

The toll of celebrity addiction — to street drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol or a mix — is long and mournful, and seems particularly heavy right now thanks to the deaths of Houston, 48, and Amy Winehouse, 27 .

And not just them: In recent years, Michael Jackson,Heath Ledger and Anna Nicole Smith have succumbed to overdoses; going back further, the list includes John Belushi, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Judy Garland.

Christopher Kennedy Lawford

IMG_4569What an evening it was with Christopher Kennedy Lawford at Pasadena Recovery Center on January 28th to share his Experiences, Strengths and Hopes with an audience of about 80. Chris was joined by Dr Drew Pinsky promoting his latest New York Times Best Selling book, “Recover to Live”. Guests were treated to Chef Eric’s special hors d’oeuvres, Q & A with Chris and Dr. Drew as well as photo ops and signed copies of Chris’ latest book.
