LOOKING BACK: Celebrity Rehab Season 1

With VH1′s new show, “Rehab with Dr. Drew,” debuting next month, we thought we’d take a look back where it all began with the original “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew“. The entire reality series was filmed at the Pasadena Recovery Center. The show starred: Jaimee Foxworth, Seth “Shifty” Binzer, Ricco Rodriguez, Daniel Baldwin, Brigitte Nielsen, Chyna (Joan Marie Laurer), Mary Carey, and Jeff Conaway. The entire first full intake episode is below:

The following are quotes from the first season about Pasadena Recovery Center employee Shelly Sprague:

  • “Because Shelly is herself a recovering addict, she knows addict bullshit and exactly how to address it.” – Dr. Drew Pinsky
  • “It’s important that the patients remember that [Shelly’s] been where they are. So I asked Shelly to remind them of her story of recovery.” – Dr. Drew Pinsky
  • “Shes’s actually really good at what she does. She is. When it comes to addiction she knows her sh*t” – Crazytown lead singer Seth ‘Shifty’ Binzer
  • “Shelly the Shark, she always has the answers to everything. I want to thank you for being so tough on me” – Former MMA Champion Ricco Rodriguez

The following are quotes from the first season about Pasadena Recovery Center employee Bob Forrest:

  • “Let me introduce Bob Forrest. Bob is my main squeeze. He’s a lead counselor. The guy has led us through many journeys and through many battles together and helped a lot of people.” – Dr. Drew Pinsky
  • “Bob is the most talented chemical dependency counselor I’ve ever seen. Simple. Period.” – Dr. Drew Pinksy
  • “Bob, I just really thought you didn’t like me for the first two weeks. But then I realized you do, and you just want us to learn how important sobriety is.” – Former Adult Film Star Mary Carey

The following are quotes from the first season about Pasadena Recovery Center employee Will Smith:

  • “Will, you’ve been a big part of it” - Former MMA Champion Ricco Rodriguez

A few select important quotes about addiction from Dr. Drew:

  • “Family treatment is a key component of care. Addiction is a family disease. If you don’t treat the family the patient is not likely to succeed.” – Dr. Drew Pinksy
  • “Addiction is a brain disease. There’s a treatment for this disease and the treatment works.” – Dr. Drew Pinsky

Katie M. Testimonial

Helping people get their lives back from the clutches of addiction is what we do at the Pasadena Recovery Center. We make a real difference and even save lives. And while the work is rewarding in itself, it is still nice to hear from former residents about the impact we’ve had on their lives. For example, the note below we recently received from Katie M:

“Hello, my name is Katie M. and I was admitted to PRC in 2006. I was 18 and was suffering from kidney failure. I had my very first dialysis treatment while I was staying at the Pasadena Recovery Center and Will Smith was the one to drive me to the clinic. A few months later I had a kidney transplant that failed soon there after due to complications and medication negligence. As soon a I left the transplant hospital I came back to Pasadena to stay at a sober living house down the street and frequented PRC meetings. Butch was my counselor while I was there and both he and Will made a positive impact on my life. At this point I have been on dialysis for 6 years at age 24 but I have not used since leaving your facility six years ago. Anyway, I just wanted to say  thank you to Butch and Will and to let them know that I am sober, happy and optimistic. Thanks PRC!”

Pasadena Recovery Center Welcomes Will Smith’s Newborn Son!

Will Smith Family at the Pasadena Recovery Center

Friday was an exciting day for us at the Pasadena Recovery Center as Will Smith, whom many will recognize as the Rehab Resident Tech from Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, stopped by with his wife La Shonda and their newborn son, Lance. The future USC Trojan is off the charts adorable (see photo). Welcome to the PRC family little guy!
